H. Lee Dixon Community Impact Scholarship

H. Lee Dixon Community Impact Scholarship

The H. Lee Dixon Community Impact Scholarship was established to empower, support and promote continuing education to individuals who demonstrate a commitment to making a positive difference in their communities. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students or community members who have actively engaged in volunteer work, leadership roles, and/or initiatives. The goal is to foster a culture of civic responsibility, encourage further involvement in community service, and ultimately contribute to the overall well-being and development of the community. Recipients are expected to use their education and skills to ensure that the benefits of the scholarship extend beyond individual achievement to create a legacy of community enhancement. This scholarship is available for citizens of Hopewell, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Prince George County, Dinwiddie County, and Chesterfield County. Priority may be given to citizens who are the child or grandchild of a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 637, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 637 Auxiliary. Preference may also be given to students interested in learning a trade from any trade school.
Kay F. Toombs Memorial Foundation Fund

Kay F. Toombs Memorial Foundation Fund

The Kay F. Toombs Memorial Foundation was established in September 2018 in memory of Kay F. Toombs, who battled a rare form of adrenal cancer for nearly five years before her passing. Kay was the coordinator of the Infant Intervention Program at District 19 and remained dedicated to her work with "her babies" until the very end of her life. In February 2025, the management and administration of the Kay F. Toombs Memorial Foundation transitioned to John Randolph Foundation. This fund will continue to support children from birth to five years old who have physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

Jo Turek and Shirley Hall Scholarship Endowment

Purpose To promote ongoing education by awarding scholarships for any course of study. However, priority may be given to students raised by a single parent who are majoring in Education or pursuing a wide range of STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and commitment to the community through volunteer service. Institutions may include trade/technical colleges, community colleges, and four-year colleges or universities.

The purpose of the Disaster Response Fund shall be to provide grants to address immediate needs as well as long-term effects as our community recovers from any disaster within the JRF service area. Priority will be given to organizations providing disaster/crisis response services, organizations experiencing a greater demand for current services due to the disaster and organizations experiencing hardship due to loss of revenue.
